Microdermabrasion creams: three great buys

microdermabrasion skin 140x150 Microdermabrasion creams: three great buysMicrodermabrasion creams are a great way to make your clinic treatment last longer.

Or if you don’t want to commit to a microdermabrasion skin clinic treatment then buying a good microdermabrasion cream is a great way to give yourself an anti aging facial at home.

In this article I’ve selected some great microdermabrasion creams from three excellent skin care lines – Dr Brandt, Dr Michelle Copeland and AFA. Two of the products I can recommend personally and the third I’ve chosen based on forum research and user reviews on skin care sites.

Like two of the three products suggested here – many microdermabrasion creams combine aluminium crystals with glycolic acid or AHA’s.

The crystals are the manual exfoliating agents – as you rub the cream in the crystals physically take off the dead surface layer of skin – the same way they would in your dermatologist’s clinic or at a spa.

Glycolic acid or AHA’s are chemical exfoliators which aid the shedding of the dead skin cells to reveal the younger, fresher skin beneath. Combining the two types of exfoliating makes for a more powerful effect – more like a clinic microdermabrasion treatment. Whatever product you choose – the formula needs to be finely balanced to make sure you get the glow without the burn.

Fabulous product and that’s how my skin feels after using it. It really is a more “powerful” scrub and my 52 year old skin feels smooth and glowing days after using it.” User review of Dr Michelle Copeland Microdermabrasion Formula

Microdermabrasion is even more effective when combined with active anti aging retinol serums applied to the skin after the microdermabrasion treatment. Using both together often more than doubles the effect from one alone!

Remember what works for one person won’t necessarily do it for you. Test a small area first to make sure there is no adverse reaction. Always follow the instructions for use and give your skin time to get used to the product.

“This is the best microdermabrasion cream i have ever used. Not harsh at all and my skin feels like glass its so smooth” User review of Dr Brandt Microdermabrasion Cream

One other tip – make sure you wash off all the product after use. Aluminium crystals are not meant to be left on skin and the tiniest amount of grainy product left behind could irritate sensitive skin. I keep my hair out of the way under a band and use a small muslin cloth and plenty of warm water until I’m sure my face and neck are completely rinsed.

The rejuvenating effects of a microdermabrasion cream should be evident immediately after the first use – although results will also build over time. With regular use you should see great improvements in your skin tone, clarity and radiance.

So – having said all that – here’s three microdermabrasion creams that are definitely worth trying:

Dr Brandt microdermabrasion: This is a great product from a world famous skin expert. I first used this as a sample over a year ago, wrote a review on my skin care site, and went on to splash out on a full pot I liked it so much. Dr Brandt combines magnesium oxide crystals with grapefruit seed extract (AHA) and aloe, honey and jojoba to soothe. The texture is lovely – you need very little to give a great polish and radiance to your skin and it provides a wonderful base for other active anti aging products. Makes a real difference to the look of your skin. Expensive but definitely worth it and it lasts a long time.

AFA Exfoliating Gel Max: This one I haven’t used yet but the brand is highly regarded and there are good reviews. Strictly speaking it’s a gel rather than a cream – based on vitamin C to promote radiance and clarity and dead sea minerals to soothe and restore – just the thing after a summer’s sun exposure!  It’s a cost conscious choice and looks like excellent value.

Dr Michelle Copeland Microdermabrasion Formula: I have used samples of this and it is as good as the reviews suggest. Uses a high level of AHA (10%) to give a real boost to the exfoliation process combined with alumimum crystals to slough off the layers of skin. Aloe is used to calm and soothe and antioxidants like Vitamins C and E give an extra anti aging boost. Same price as the Dermalect.

Any of these microdermabrasion creams will give you great results. My personal choice would be the Dr Brandt Microdermabrasion – but then I’m biased. If you want to spend less and still get a great result Dr Michelle Copeland Microdermabrasion Formula would be a good alternative.
